Why This Must Be Read: One of the fics I could read over and over and over again. I love the slightly detached style and all the subtle undercurrents weaved into this story. The pre-text of Laura and John meeting each other by chance in a war zone - Panmunjom, that is - after the Atlantis Expedition having been shutdown is both an interesting and kind of depressing one and

amitee wrote both of them both perfectly like I imagined they would be in that kind of AU. As a bonus, the author manages to fully flash out the OCs on Laura's new team with only a minimum of words. Really a classic among Cadman/Sheppard.

Why This Must Be Read: Written for the

sg_rarepairings challenge, it's one of the most unlikely SG pairings I could think of but I was surprised how much I liked it. In the one shot,

ziparumpazoo develops an entire relationship in AU!Kawalsky's past and interweaves it with present time happening in Ripple Effect. Kawalsky's pain at seeing "our" Sam when his Sam has left his life at some point before stumbling into "our" SGC is so very palpable and, for want of a better word, present and it's simply amazing how much sense the ship makes in this fic, overall. I keep wishing for another

sg_rarepairings entry (I really do miss the challenge...), as an episode tag to The Road Not Taken, exploring the implications of "our" Sam arriving in RNT!Lorne's verse for their Sam and most of all for Lorne. I love the fact that

triplesnap sheds light on what it must be doing to Lorne that canon!Sam's sudden appearance made his Sam disappear permantly. It's a point the actual episode never really cared to have a look at - Lorne does seem to be only one actually put off by the whole point of their Sam being gone - which is why I can't help going back to that story once in a while as it's sad and somehow desperate undertone is what I missed in the episode. It also actually inspired me to a series of one-shots featuring RNT!Lorne for my

fanfic100 claim, it was that good :)

sg_rarepairings entry. Well. Err, anyway, I'd never have thought of those two before but

muppetmanda made it perfectly possible to see them. It's a fun, sexy story that has them both in character and there's also Lorne/Cadman friendship thrown in the mix, which kind of makes it perfect. It actually made me wish for more Cadman/Mitchell fic out there because they really do seem to click and it was just fun watching them getting into each other's pants and hearts.
