Fandom category: Haven
Pairing: Audrey Parker/Nathan Wuornos
Fic Title: We Could Leave This Town and Run Forever
Author: gagewhitney
Link: here
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance with a little adventure (could be read as slight AU) thrown in for good measure
WIP: No
Why this must be read: It is a rare story indeed that not only challenges my perception of the characters and their potential actions but also manages to make a scenario I previously thought implausible seem like the only logical scenario. But this story, with Audrey and Nathan deciding to flee Haven in an attempt to save both the town they love and each other, is just so well-written and so very, very them that I immediately cast all my doubts aside and embraced it. It's a subtle but telling tale of what true sacrifice is, and it's about as perfect a story as I can think of.
Fic Title: True Stories
Author: december21st
Link: here
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Is perfect a genre? I'd say gen with a hint of romance
WIP: No
Why this must be read: This author is so damn talented it's not fair. She's known more for her drabbles, but this longer piece takes you by the hand and leaves you breathless within one sentence; this is one of those stories you hope never ends. She sets a pace and an atmosphere as mysterious and compelling as Haven itself, and you want to explore every nook and cranny until you learn every secret it has to offer. It's a testament to how evocative language can and should be, and while it's a tad more gen than romance, it's still a worthwhile read.
Fic Title: Fixed

Rating: M
Genre: Romance/smut
WIP: No
Why this must be read: Because it's damn well perfect, that's why. Many authors have had, ahem, fun with the fact that the only thing Nathan can feel is Audrey, but nowhere else have I found such a perfect combination of characterization and sexytimes. I've always said smut is (if you'll pardon the pun) hard to do well, but this piece is the example all authors should look to when trying to write not only these characters but the genre as well.
Fic Title: Hereafter
Author: vega_rin

Rating: PG
Genre: Angst/friendship/romance
WIP: No
Why this must be read: Admittedly, angst is my drug of choice (they tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no.) What I love about this story is truly how haunting it is. In the aftermath of Audrey coming and going from Haven, she leaves more than just unanswered questions in her wake. Ironically, it is the evocative pain that makes me love this piece; just as Nathan cannot escape the aftermath, neither can the reader, and the fact that this piece makes you feel what he feels -- there's that irony again -- is why it stands out to me. Finally, I love finding a story applicable even after the time it was originally posted; this was a follow-up to the season one finale "Spiral" but still works (perhaps better) post "Sins of the Fathers."
Fic Title: Little Boy Lost
Author: etgoddess

Rating: PG
Genre: Angst/romance
WIP: No
Why this must be read: As with the above entry, the angst and emotion are so overwhelming that you can't not read it. Additionally, the style in which this piece is written is one of the most creative I've ever seen, regardless of fandom; this author knows how to set a scene; knows how not only to set a scene but make the most of it, and it's just mind-bendingly gorgeous.
