Why This Must Be Read: Anyone familiar with Twilight knows that to say Bella and Jacob have a lot of baggage is an understatement. In this AU, Bella doesn't become a vampire--she divorces Edward and leaves the Cullens to raise her baby on her own after Edward tries to abort the pregnancy against her wishes. 8 years later, a posthumous letter from Edward comes to his daughter--now named Saisha--imploring her to convince Bella to reconcile with Jacob since his actions have caused the both of them so much pain. This is actually a really thoughtful story, with a much more mature and confident Bella--one who recognizes her mistakes, owns up to them, and is willing to tackle her issues with Jacob in a reasonable and adult fashion. Jacob, while understandably resentful at first, is similarly able to put aside his own anger and meet her halfway to work things out. Of course, things hardly go smoothly and the author doesn't just ignore the issue of imprinting, choosing to address and resolve it in a very interesting way.

Day 06 - A fic with the most heartbreaking scene.

WIP?: This story is complete in and of itself, but is part of a larger ongoing series that can be found here. It does work as a stand-alone read though.

Why This Must Be Read: I felt this story like a punch to the gut. Everything about this fic is heartbreaking--Natasha's backstory (which is written and presented with great skill), Clint's reactions, Steve and Tony being unfortunate observers of this particular trainwreck, and especially the last scene in the story. Just...utterly devastating to read, knowing how much Clint and Natasha have been through together, and then to see them having to take opposite sides, both for valid and understanding, if frustrating, reasons. The rest of the series is worth reading as well. There's fantastic Clint backstory, an intriguing treatment of how the team is learning to negotiate team dynamics and trust, and some truly wonderful characterizations.

Why This Must Be Read: This is not only the most interesting take on the whole idea of 'being unmade' I've read so far, but one of my favorite longfics overall. Great writing style, the characterizations are amazing (down to the original characters) and the plot cost me a few hours of sleep because I didn't want to put it down.

Why This Must Be Read: I have always been big on fics with an outside looking in theme and this is no exception, the author portrays the complex and striking relationship between Talia and Bane beautifully. She also paints a striking view on the relationship between Talia and her father or lack there of, using his relationship with here mother as a counterpoint. This hits on one of my other all time favorite situations: Two sides of a coin.

Why This Must Be Read: From the title and the summary - which makes it clear Peggy has become immortal by kissing Steve - I thought this story was going to be pure crack. It is not. It's actually totally serious and not once does the absurdity of the premise hurt the issues dealt with here; namely immortality and what it means to face a never-ending future as well as the lies necessary to live that kind of life. Don't get me wrong, it's fun too. Peggy doesn't let immortality stop her from living. Her journey through the twentieth century is true to character and ties itself very nicely into canon. She meets several familiar faces from The Avengers film over the years but it never feels like the author is imposing or forcing Peggy into places she doesn't belong.

He takes it as a sign, figures that it’s as good or as worse a time as any time else, and reaches for her hand.

She snatches her fingers away as if they are burnt. He smiles like his own skin isn’t equally as singed and curls his hand into a fist.

Clint is probably the first person that ever ACTUALLY protected her from others and herself. Just, JFC these kids!

Why This Must Be Read: Because this does a ridiculously good job at painting what the dynamics of the three ships here could be. The characterization of the women, especially, is wonderful. I didn't think I would get much of a balanced fic with so many characters and ships traipsing through, but this did an admirable job with doing justice to all. A post-Avengers fic, where Natasha determines after watching some footage that the key to "neutralizing" the Hulk was one Dr. Elizabeth Ross.

Also, some really great one-liners in the narration.

Why This Must Be Read: The summary reads, "It's not about being unmade; it's about remaking, one aching step at a time." I couldn't have put it better, and I can't begin to describe the beauty of this fic. It takes the line, "You and I remember Budapest very differently," and runs with it. Basic premise? Clint thinks he and Natasha are violently in love, and that Loki has messed with Natasha's memories. Natasha thinks love is for children, and that Loki has messed with Clint's memories. We don't know who's right. This fic has humor, angst, drama, romance, suspense, and an absolutely beautiful look at the way the minds of two very dangerous, battle-scarred people work, and the way that their equally dangerous, battle-scarred hearts might work together.
