Why This Must Be Read: This is a scorchingly hot V. Mars fic, taking place after the season 2 finale - it's actually the last of three linked stories in different fandoms, but I read "Demolition" as a standalone first and didn't even notice, so no need to read the other chapters unless you feel like it. When I think of this story, I have such strong images - of Logan in thick protective gloves, demolishing his father's mansion, of Logan and Veronica out by the pool under the sun making out - it gorgeously captures a specific feeling and mood of the downtime these two characters must have needed and craved after everything they went through on the show.

Why This Must Be Read: I love post-series fic that works to give us an ending to the show that the WB/CW never gave Veronica Mars, and this one is a masterful one that has Veronica and Logan working at being friends and working through their issues as they take a summer road trip together across the United States. The author really delves into their emotional baggage (individual and relationship-related) and it all comes to a really satisfying conclusion.

This will definitely help hold you over until the first movie comes out. (March 2012!)

This is a really fun read--I promise you'll laugh out loud a few times.

Why This Must Be Read:
Oh. My. God. This fic is amazing. The entire thing (except for the epilogue), 80+K words overall, takes place between the rooftop and Veronica waiting at the airport in 2.22 ("Not Pictured"). Just about every question I had (and some I didn't even know about) but that were never answered when season 3 started are answered in this heartbreaking, but ultimately true to the world of Veronica Mars fic.

I started reading this yesterday and I could not put it down. Erm, I mean, I could not make myself close my browser. All the major players are in it and we get a shifting POV from Veronica to Logan to Keith from chapter to chapter. Which you'd think would be repetitive, but really, it so isn't. Nothing is white-washed; this fic is occasionally brutal. I'm going to be thinking about this one for a long, long time.

Why This Must Be Read: Loving Logan Echolls is a doleur exquise, but loving Veronica Mars is certainly not any easier. This is a fic that doesn’t sugarcoat the darker, damaged aspects of both Logan and Veronica, but looks at every character with great honesty. Veronica has huge trust issues and a certain problem with being completely available on the emotional plane, whereas Logan has his scars from Aaron and Lily, a self-destructive edge that is sometimes hard to control. This fic shows that beautifully. Yet it’s not a dark story – far from it. Logan and Veronica slowly and gradually learn to face their traumas, learn from their mistakes, and build a life together. There’s a unique level of depth in this narration the show writers for VM should have envied. The prose is beautiful, which never hurts. And the epic saga that starts in this fic continues in two sequels that thread their alternate season 3 mixing the author’s wonderful perspective with season 3 canon elements. Also, the friendship that develops between Jackie and Logan here is something you grow to love fast, whether you loved or hated Jackie Cook onscreen. And Meg is alive and stays so in order to have a family with Duncan – how awesome is that? This my quintessentially perfect Veronica Mars fic, by definition!

Why This Must Be Read: Probably my favorite VM fanfic. The writing is fantastic. The characters are incredibly in character. It's got angst and romance, but it's dark and restrained and complicated, just like the characters. The story takes place where Veronica Mars ended too soon, at the end of season 3, with Veronica still with Piz, with her and Logan orbiting each other as they do, trying to figure out who they are, and who they are if they are together. If the show had to end too early, this is possibly the scenario I would have wanted to see play out in the TV show afterlife.

Why This Must Be Read: Mac and Dick are one messed up couple with a hell of a lot of baggage behind them, all of it courtesy of Cassidy, but for some reason they intrigue me and I'm not even a big Dick fan. Still, I think this fic shows why they could work. Both of them are still in the grieving process, but they're trying to get on with their lives, Mac more productively than Dick. Great voices, there are some perfect lines scatter in the middle of this fic, which is about friendship and maybe something new.

Why This Must Be Read: Along the vein of the last fic, this fic too is almost mostly dealing with Dick and Mac's friendship after Cassidy, but there's enough little moments to read ship from. Dick's voice is perfect here; funny mixed with mean, and mostly inappropriate. Mac is lovely, taking with ease all the crazy Dick throws her way. This is also the way I really would see their friendship/relationship going if Dick stopped his jerky ways, towards Mac, at least.
