Why This Must Be Read: When I think of epic fics, I think of long, plotty, engaging fics that explore some facet of canon that the writers never thought about. This fic is one of my favorite epic SGA fics, and it is glorious in all the right ways. It takes the episode "Before I Sleep," arguably one of the best episodes of SGA, and then makes it even better. The story is simple - what if both the alternative version of John and Elizabeth survived the original expedition, only to travel back 10,000 years to the times of the Ancients. What would happen? What would be the outcome? This story takes that AU idea and explores it thoroughly. Gorgeously written plot that explores the times of the Ancients as they fight against the Wraith - and are losing.

Block out the afternoon, and read this fic.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is 27 chapters of pure excitement. It's a re-telling of the last of the PoTC saga, in a way Disney never dreamed of. Definitely an epic tale, and one you can hardly stop reading to go to bed.

Why This Must Be Read:
I wasn't a big fan of this show at all until I read this wonderful story. It reads like an episode of the show and the characterization is so perfect it's a little scary. It's funny, sexy, touching, and romantic without being too sentimental. If you're on the fence about this pairing, I think this story could change your mind. I know I believed Jack and Allison were destined by the time I finished reading it.

Why This Must Be Read: The Standard Bearer was one of the first "epics" I ever read, back in the day when I still wasn't sure about this fanfic thing. It certainly brought me around! Taking place during the first War of the Ring, we follow an OC called Gildinwen as she fulfills her destiny and meets Elrond. It's pretty great.
