I'm not sure what it was about Stargate Atlantis that sparked such an ENORMOUS number of AUs. Yet here we are.

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard (primary), also Laura Cadman/Carson Beckett, Kate Heightmeyer/Marcus Lorne, etc.
Fic Title: [livejournal.com profile] stargate_ren
Author: [livejournal.com profile] melyanna, [livejournal.com profile] miera_c, [livejournal.com profile] angelqueen04 and [livejournal.com profile] sache8

Rating/Warning(s): G-PG
Genre: Drama, Romance
WIP? Kind of. All the stories are currently complete, but they are still wrapping up the series.

Why This Must Be Read: THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH MOMENTS IN MY LIFE for me to explain why you need to read this. The characterizations are spot on. The historical detail (and accuracy) is STAGGERING. The tension is NEARLY UNBEARABLE a lot of the time. EVERYONE is in it. And it is ENORMOUS.

I do recommend that you start with Ascension of the Queen, and read the stories in the order they were written. It feels more like seasons of TV that way. :)

Other recs under the cut )

And now I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

(I totally gave up tagging this, btw. There are about a million pairings in Ren ALONE, and most of them are kind of unconventional.) :)

In no particular order whatsoever, here's eleven recs for the S4/s5 Fix It Challenge held over at [livejournal.com profile] john_elizabeth. Disclosure: I am only doing 11 recs, omg. No more. 'Cause, dude, this post took forever to write up. There are nearly twenty fics in the challenge written thus far, so there's plenty of more goodness that I did not praise!

Recs include spoilers for s4/s5 )

WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: I know, I know. I need to stop reccing SGA fic, but I'll stop reccing it when good fics stop getting written, okay? This fic was just posted less than an hour ago? Anyway, it's priceless, because the humor and awesomeness of it is pretty much unparalleled. I would go on and on about the hilarious lines and characterization, the awesome bonding between John and Cameron (you know they'd be best buds) and Elizabeth's involvement.... but dude, this story is just love. Seriously. Mad amounts of love.

Walking Elizabeth Home and Cue the Joshua Radin Song
Rating/Warning(s): Sex, a little bad language
Genre: Romance
WIP?: Complete

Why This Must Be Read:
The fabulously hot and inexplicably perfect combo of Cameron Mitchell and Elizabeth Weir really makes sense to me. Curiously, or maybe not, almost every fic out there with them as a pairing is at least PG-13. I guess other people think they're a hot combo too, quite literally? My absolute favorite is the heart-breaking and hopeful at the same time, 12-part
Walking Elizabeth Home. In this AU, rather than dying in "First Strike," Elizabeth was rescued from the Asurans but is deemed too great a security risk to remain on Atlantis and is still recovering from her original pre-nanite injuries. Over the course of the very long journey back to Earth on the Mitchell-commanded Odyssey, Elizabeth grieves for Atlantis and everything that she has lost and tries to heal her emotional and physical wounds. I was completely bowled over by how Cam woos her subtly and devastatingly with his customary charm and humor. Do not miss the burning hot and emotionally satisfying coda, Cue the Joshua Radin Song either.

WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: Because this pairing should not work. Because it's just so out there, that you gotta wonder why irony_rocks even attempted to write fic for it in the first place, especially such a long fic. But every so often, there comes a fic that makes you root for an unexpected ship. This story makes you rethink your position on so-called "crack pairings." IR writes Cameron/Weir beautifully, with awe-inspiring characterization that makes you have trouble remembering the fact that Cameron and Elizabeth have shared a nearly non-existent amount of screentime together.

The story is set during the Orii plotline, with Earth overtaken and the Atlantis expedition coming to the rescue for once instead of the other way around. IR explores the leadership dynamics, and while the story revolves around Cameron and Elizabeth, the backdrop of the apocolypse is dealt with a deft hand. There's a healthy dose of angst woven into the story.

But then there's flirting, fun and banter. Oh, yes, the banter. I just love the chemistry IR establishes between the two. It's no wonder that there's a small uprising of Mitchell/Weir shippers. ;-)

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, sex, violence, apoco-fic

WIP?: no.

Why This Must Be Read: Set in an alternate universe where Elizabeth never joined the Atlantis expedition and instead continued her diplomatic career. It starts off at IOA negotiations where Cameron is her military escort, and medie makes the ship work wonderfully. There's political intrigue, an apocalyptic setting, flawless writing, and great characterization. A must-read for anyone that appreciates crossovers or unique pairings.
