Why This Must Be Read: This story goes into Star's mind, attempting to give a fuller view of her character and viewpoint upon meeting Michael. The movie was an enjoyable vampire flick. Star & Michael were the two characters who rode the line between dark & light - the type of characters you can do so much with. However this is one of the few pieces (in a small fandom anyway) that I've seen try and get into Star's head.

Why This Must Be Read: First off, there is simply not enough M7 het out there, so it is always nice to find. Second, this story gives a view not only to Mary/Chris, but how Mary is considered family to all seven of the men. They rally around her at a moment of terror.

Okay, first, caitriona_3 is finishing up her Special Monthly Recs, and will likely be somewhere around 100 or so recs. GIVE HER THE HUGEST ROUND OF APPLAUSE, FOLKS. She deserves it!

Why This Must Be Read: So I've been lurking on this LJ for awhile, reaping all the benefits of not having to trawl through heaps of fic to get to the good ones, but I've never really been tempted to post a rec of my own...but this author has totally made me grab an account and start reccing. This particular fic is a what if story where Batman's sudden death leaves the Team without a mentor and the Justice League without one of their important members. So what do they do? Call Catwoman in, of course. In this fic, Catwoman happens to have been married to Batman, and is "reformed," but still retains all the badass-ery that makes her, well, Catwoman. It also makes her a hilarious and oddly touching mentor for the Team. The characterization is spot on for all the characters, and I really particularly enjoyed the serving of Artemis/Wally, complete with banter and teasing and adorable-ness. This fic might be most notable for the excellent dynamics between Team members (particularly the friendships between Wally & Dick, M'Gann & Dick, Artemis & Connor) and between Catwoman and the Team as she struggles with her new role. The team is initially wary of her, but are starting to warm up per the last update. A really great, fun read that I'm happy to have stumbled upon.

Why This Must Be Read: What to say about this fic...I stumbled upon it because I'd read a few of the author's fics that I enjoyed, but this one absolutely blew me away. I've read a lot of "what happens to Catwoman and Batman after TDKR" fics, including the most popular one, but this one is the best, in my opinion. The characterization of Selina and Bruce is incredible. Each of them really feel like people, with flaws, insecurities, and heart. Each of them is, in their own way, both the hero and the villain of the story, with layers upon layers upon layers. Their interactions are full of really, truly funny banter and introspection. In addition, they don't fall in love "at first sight," which is a particular peeve of mine. You actually get to watch their relationship grow. This fic takes you on a journey--and it really is a physical journey--from the moment Selina finds out Bruce is alive to the heartbreaking climax of their first fight. They travel through Europe on a trip together, and the author takes you right along with them. The detail is beautiful; I've been to the cities the author describes, and the descriptions are ridiculously meticulous and spot on. The writing style is really fluid and effortless, and never so fussy that it detracts from what's happening. If I had to describe this story in two words, they would probably be "bittersweet" and "sophisticated." Really, really worth a read. It changed the way I thought about the characters. Plus the sex is really hot.

Why This Must Be Read: I'll try to keep this short and sweet, since my first rec was so long. This is the fic you want to read if you're in the mood for a night out ex-superhero/villain style. It's funny and sweet (but never saccharine), following Selina and Bruce through a night of fistfights and attempted heists. The dialogue is really, genuinely amusing, and though the fic is obviously not meant to be serious, the characterizations still ring very true and believable. There's plenty of lampshading, juvenile humor, and flirtatiousness. It's a really fun, light read.

Why This Must Be Read: At the moment this is a two-parter, but the series is not marked complete, so maybe there'll be more? DG & Cain are taken prisoner, and there is nothing more painful than watching the torture of a loved one. I don't normally read or recommend dark fics, but the second one-shot does end on a hopeful note. I wanted to recommend this because the author treats the situation with appropriate seriousness. There is no "after-school special" and everything's okay by the end of the hour.

Why This Must Be Read: Usually it is Gwen with the unresolved feelings or jealousy. Here it is Jack. I like the pairing of Gwen and Jack because at the very beginning of Torchwood (series 1), she is the one who has the best chance of being his equal, something I think is necessary for a good relationship. (You can choose to be submissive, but if you are not starting from equality and making the choice, it is not good.) I like this insight into Jack's side of the story.

Why This Must Be Read: Three years after Klaus was dealt with and Damon chose to leave, most of the group decided to travel. There was one person left behind; one person who was not invited. Abandoned, her visions ignored, Bonnie must deal with a new evil taking root in Fells Church. Alone. At least until Damon saunters back into town. I liked this story. In the books, Elena made me want to grit my teeth with her attitude, but Bonnie was a fun, lovely character. The last scene between her and Damon in the book makes this story believable for me. And its nice to see Damon getting the chance to be the hero instead of Stefan.
